Fukushima Embroidery

Once a place of activity and purpose, this abandoned structure now exists in a state of slow transformation.
 
Inspired by a landscape shaped by disaster, the piece considers how nature responds to upheaval and gradually reclaims what has been damaged or abandoned. While human attempts to control the environment can leave lasting marks, natural processes continue long after the moment of crisis has passed. The work explores this slow return, where destruction and renewal exist side by side.
 
Created entirely from reclaimed materials, including second-hand fabric, thread and hoop, the piece combines hand embroidery with paint, ink, paper and Lutradur. The layered surface echoes themes of transformation, resilience and the passage of time.
 
The frame measures 16cm across and is ready to hang.
