St. Paul's Church Sketty Lich Gate.

Inspired by the lichgate of St Paul's Church in Sketty, Swansea, this textile artwork reflects on the passage of time and the traces left by generations of people.
 
I walk past this church regularly and often find myself wondering about everything the lichgate has witnessed. For decades it has stood quietly at the threshold between everyday life and remembrance, observing countless arrivals, departures, celebrations and farewells. The piece is an attempt to capture something of that accumulated history.
 
The work combines hand and machine embroidery with hand dyeing, paint, ink and additional hand stitching. Layered textures echo the weathered character of the structure itself, creating a portrait of a place shaped by both time and memory.
